In 1959, Mack Charles Parker, a young Black man, was charged with raping a white woman and arrested in Poplarville, Mississippi. A white mob took him from jail, beat him, and shot him, leaving his body in a river. The author researched the event using Justice Department and FBI documents, interviews with people who were there, and newspaper accounts.
