Handwritten letter from the Duke of Montrose regarding the Eastern Battalion of Stirlingshire Volunteer Infantry
1808. 1 handwritten letter from the Duke of Montrose, dated 3 May 1808, London, responding to a request from Lt. Col. Simpson for scheduling the Eastern Battalion of Stirlingshire Volunteer Infantry for two weeks at Stirling. James Graham, 3rd Duke of Montrose (1755-1836), was a member of Parliament in 1780 and from 1784 to 1790 and is said to be responsible for the repeal of the act prohibiting the wearing of tartans in 1782. He was Master of the Horse from 1790 to 1795, and from 1807 to 1821, during which period this letter was written. In Very Good Condition: creasing; darkened along upper edge; light ink from another letter placed on top while damp. Very Good. Item #008211
