Boston: Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, 1821. 1-page printed letter from a committee of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, dated 14 April 1821, Boston. The members of the committee are: William H. Sumner, William Sullivan, H. A. S. Dearborn, Benjamin Loring, Thaddeus Page, Samuel H. Parker, William Fernald, Lusher Gay, A. H. Gibbs, James Talbot, William Howe, and Zachariah G. Whitman. On the reverse this is addressed to Capt. Thomas C. Amory, Boston. Thomas C. Amory was a merchant with Adams & Amory and was adjutant of the Independent Corps of Cadets in 1820, ensign in 1822-23, and captain in 1824-25. On 23 April 1821 Amory replied to this letter that he would like to join the Artillery Company, which he did and was first sergeant in 1829. Scarce. In Very Good Condition: ink notation in an old hand in lower right-hand corner; discoloration along side edges and in lower third of text; closed 2-cm. tear from edge of address side; otherwise, clean and solid.
