Washington, D.C. Syracuse Post-Standard, 1942. 1 typed letter, signed by journalist Frederic J. Haskin on Syracuse Post-Standard Information Bureau letterhead, dated 22 Oct. 1942. Frederic Jennings Haskin (1873-1944) was an American journalist best known for his information column, which researched and answered readers' questions. In this letter, he is responding to Mr. Broadman who inquired about Dr. Wassell, mentioned by President Roosevelt in a speech on 28 April 1942. Dr. Corydon M. Wassell had received the Navy Cross for helping 12 wounded sailors escape as the Japanese invaded Java. This incident inspired a book by James Hilton and a movied by Cecil B.
