Handwritten Vellum Deed for House and Lot on S. Duke St., Reading, Pa.

1830. 1 handwritten vellum deed. Peter Ritner of Reading, Berks Co., Pa., died intestate and left seven children. On 23 Oct. 1830 his seven heirs sold to Mary Smith of Reading for $700 a one-story brick house and lot on S. Duke St. in Reading. Signed by Peter Rittner, Jacob Rittner, George Rittner, Sarah Rittner, Joseph Rittner, Catharine Ritner, Catharine Rittner Hahn, and Mary Ritner (the last three by their mark). Those who signed their own names spelled it "Rittner," while the clerk who wrote the deed spelled it "Ritner" in the deed and for the women who could not write their own names. Also signed by witnesses Georg Hi? and William Schooner. Somw names are in German script. In Fine Condition: clean and crisp. Fine. Item #008301
