Handwritten Vellum Deed for Property in the Northern Liberties, Philadelphia

1805. On 28 March 1799, Robert and Hannah Harper sold to Joseph Potts a house and 41-acre tract in Northern Liberties Township, Philadelphia. Joseph Potts died after writing his will and naming his wife, Mary Potts, his son Phineas Potts, and his friend Joseph Kirkbride executors. On 14 October 1805, the executors now sell for 2,000 pounds of Pennsylvania to Anna Potts of Northern Liberties Township (Joseph Potts' daughter) a house and 21 acres of the 41 acres at the Germantown and Frankford roads. Signed by Frances Potts, Mary Potts, Phineas Potts, Joseph Kirkbride, justice of the peace Robert Morris, and Philadelphia County Recorder of Deeds Edward Fox, with his seal. Edward Fox (1752-1822) was Recorder of Deeds of the City and County of Philadelphia from 1799 to 1809. He was also secretary of the American Fire Insurance Company from 1810 to 1822, of the Hibernian Society of Philadelphia from 1791 to 1818 (and president from 1818 to 1822), and of the University of Pennsylvania from 1791 to 1822.
