1818. 1 handwritten deed (31 x 8 cm.) for sale on 26 Dec. 1818 by William Herrick of Sedgwick, Hancock County, for $350 to James Seavey, Jr., of Sedgwick, part of lot #12 in the second division of Sedgwick containing 50 acres. Signed by William Herrick, witnesses David Thurston and Mehitable Thurston, and Hancock County Register of Deeds B. Hall. Sedgwick is one of six townships, each six miles square, established in 1761 by Massachusetts. Hancock County is in Maine, which was part of Massachusetts until 1820, when it was allowed to secede and form a separate state as part of the Missouri Compromise.
