With the oval stamp of the De Milt Library, New York City, on the title page and the first page of text, along with two library catalog numbers on the title page. The De Milt Library, later Demilt Library, belonged to the General Society of Mechanics and Trademen of the City of New York in the 19th century. In this publication, Andrews Norton (1786-1853) responded forcefully to Emerson's Divinity School Address, given to students graduating from Harvard Divinity School and local theologians on July 15, 1838. Norton attacked Transcendentalism, and the new German theology in defense of Unitarianism. Scarce. In Good Condition: disbound; first page (title page) and last are detached but present; title page is soiled; light foxing throughout; otherwise, clean and complete. Good. Item #009283
