Hotel Dixie Do Not Disturb Sign

New York: Hotel Dixie, 1945. 1 card (11 x 16 cm.) printed in black on both sides. With the original string to hang from the door knob. The front is illustrated with the caption "Please! Tiptoe by -- I wan'na sleep." The back has a list of six Carter Hotels, including the Dixie. The Dixie Hotel opened in 1930 on 43rd Street in New York City. The other hotels listed as part of the Carter Hotels at the time were Hotel Essex and Hotel Avery in Boston, Hotel Garde in New Haven (established in 1894), Hotel Riviera in Newark (established in 1922), and the George Washington in New York (established in 1928). No date of printing. Hyman B. Cantor owned all of these hotels in the 1940s as Carter Hotels before selling the Hotel Riviera in 1949.
