Justice of the Peace Commission for Joseph Rea signed by Gov. Allen Trimble of Ohio 1828

Columbus, OH: P. H. Olmsted, 1828. Printed and handwritten document (18 x 32 cm.), with engraved state seal. Gov. Allen Trimble commissions Joseph Rea as a justice of the peace of Moorfield Township, Harrison County, Ohio, for three years on Aug. 21, 1828. Signed on the front by Gov. Allen Trimble (1783-1870), and the secretary of state, Jeremiah McLene (1767-1837), and on the back by Justice of the Peace John Russel (who spells Rea's name Rhea). On the back is also Joseph Rea's resignation from the office of justice of the peace on April 13, 1830, signed by him. Joseph Rea (1796-1862?) served in the Ohio House of representatives from 1832 to 1838. Jeremiah McLene (1767-1837) served as Ohio Secretary of State from 1808 to 1831 and represented Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1833 to 1837. He was born in Pennsylvania and is credited with having risen to the rank of major general of militia during the American Revolution.
