Chicago: Quadrangle Paperbacks, 1966. Paperback. xxiv, [2], 294 p.: 1 illustration; 21 cm. Paperback. First published in 1944; this is a reprint of the 1953 edition. David E. Lilienthal (1899-1981) served as chair of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) from 1941 to 1946 and then as chair of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The TVA had been established in 1933 to control flooding and generate power along the Tennessee River. One of the most popular New Deal agencies, it became a model for regional planning, in spite of opposition by conservatives who called it "socialism." In the Author's Note to the 1953 edition, the author emphasizes that the "unprecedented rate of economic growth and development that occurred in the first decade of the TVA" had continued. In Very Good Condition: cover lightly soiled and rubbed; upper corner of front cover creased; pages are clean and tight. Very Good. Item #009746
