The publisher, Joseph Fairfield Atwill (1811-1891), was active in New York from 1833 to 1849. The composer, Joseph Philip Knight (1812-1887), was an English clergyman and composer of popular songs. English singer Jane Shirreff (1808-1883) had a brief career from 1831 through 1841, when she married. This edition of the song probably appeared between 1833 and 1839.
