Former owner was Gerald Eades Bentley (1901-1994), the author of the foundational seven-volume work The Jacobean and Caroline Stage, as well as other works on Shakespeare and other authors of the English Renaissance. He taught at the University of Chicago from 1929 to 1945, when he became the Murray Professor English at Princeton University. He made pencilled marginal notes throughout this publication, each entry marked with either "OK" or crossed out. Although Bentley's name is not in this, it was acquired along with other works on allusions to Shakespeare, in which he had written his name and made identical marginal notes. Very scarce. In Very Good- Condition: loss over the spine; back wrapper is partially detached; fading along edges of wrapper; otherwise, clean and solid other than notes by Bentley. Very Good -. Item #010169
