Providence, R.I. B. Cranston and Co., 1843. Paperback. 64 p.; 24 cm. Brown wrapper printed in black. This Alumni Association of Brown University was established in 1842 to bring together alumni annually for a dinner and literary exercises. John Pitman (class of 1799) provided this address at the first annual meeting; although a dinner and address occured the following year, after that only meetings happened through 1853 and then the organization lapsed before a new alumni association was created in 1869. In this address, Pitman traces the history of the school; the appendix contains several documents from that history as well as an account of the 1843 exercises and dinner.
