New York: Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., 1884. Cards. One large card and 7 trade cards. The large card is 20 x 23 cm. with a color illustration of a bird within a gilt border on the front (copyright 1884 J. H. Bufford's Sons), numbered "385" in the lower righthand corner; the text on the back mentions 2 stores in Rochester, N.Y. One trade card is copyright 1883 with an illustration captioned "Grandmother" on the front and text on the back mentioning the store in Bridgeport. Another trade card is 11 x 6.6 cm. with an illustration of two owls on a gilt background with "6" in the upper lefthand corner indicating that it is part of a series; the text on the back lists stores from Akron, Ohio, to Yonkers, NY, with addresses and 25 stores in New York City. The other 5 trade cards are part of the same set, each 10.5 x 7 cm., with a caricature of a man on a gilt background on the front; the text on the back lists stores from Akron, Ohio, to Yonkers, NY, with addresses and 24 stores in New York City. In Good Condition: the large card is rubbed and 2 corners are creased; one card in the 5-card set has a closed 2-cm. tear near the lower edge with minor loss; all of the backs have some scraping and discoloration; the fronts of the trade cards are general clean and bright.
