Cologne Trade Cards: Hoyt's German Cologne and Read's Grand Duchess Cologne
Lowell, Mass. E. W. Hoyt & Co., 1894. Cards. 4 trade cards: 3 for Hoyt's German Cologne and 1 for Read's Grand Duchess Cologne. Hoyt #1: Ladies Perfumed Calendar 1894 (24 x 9 cm.) with front illustration of child with flowers and 2 birds; the back contains a calendar for 1894 and notes that the cologne is for sale by Mrs. L. ? Bennett, Lawrence, Mass. Hoyt #2: (15 x 9 cm.), copyright "18889", with front illustration of child holding flowers next to 2 butterflies; the back contains advertisements for the cologne and for Rubifoam for the teeth. Hoyt #3: (11.5 x 7.5 cm.) with front illustration of a child's head in the middle of a rose; the back contains an advertisement for the cologne and a faint stamp of "L. F. Curtis, Cheap Cash Druggist." All three of the Hoyt's cards state "Perfumed." The other trade card is for Read's Grand Duchess Cologne produced by Wm. H. Read, Baltimore, Md., with a front illustration of a woman holding a bottle of the cologne and a list of prizes won through 1882; the back also advertises Read's Sore throat and Catarrh Powder "Almost Infallible." In Good Condition: chip out of upper edge of Hoyt #1; the fronts are lightly soiled; the back of Hoyt #1 and #2 are scraped with some loss of text; the back are discolored. Good. Item #010360
