The founder of American landscape architecture, Andrew Jackson Downing (1815-1852) was the editor of The Horticulturist from its founding in 1846 until his death in 1852. Articles include: Remarks on Some of the New Pears by Samuel Walker; Ward's Cases -- The Best Mode of Growing Plants in Rooms by Wm. W. Valk; The Vineyards of the Ohio by A. H. Ernst; and numerous articles on architecture and landscape architecture by A. J. Downing. Scarce. In Good Condition: leather over spine is detached along back joint and separated along front joint; cover is rubbed; front hinge is weak; old dampstains on edges of two plates; foxing on title page, first page of index, and final few pages; otherwise, almost no foxing; clean and solid.
