Gift inscription on front free endpaper: "Presented to Chas. H. Stubbs by Prof. Persifor Frazer Jr. 2nd Geological Survey of Pa. August 4th 1877." Persifor Frazer Jr. (1844-1909) completed a report on Mining and Mineralogy of Colorado and Wyoming for the United States Geological Survey in 1869; in the 1870s he worked with the Second Geological Survey of Pennsylvania. He also taught chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania.
