Publisher's dark blue cloth with paper spine label printed in red and black. Many pages are unopened. The plates are photogravures, primarily from photographs taken by C. E. Walmsley. Contents: The Sad Fortunes of the Rev. Amos Barton; Mr. Gilfil's Love-Story; Janet's Repentance; and The Lifted Veil. Tipped in before the frontispiece is a card indicating that these volumes were part of the first impression of the set of the Warwickshire Edition of The Writing of George Eliot supplied to Elmer G. Parsly in 1916 by the publishers. Elmer Griffith Parsly (b. 1886) was a banker in Philadelphia. A heavy set; for international shipping, the U.S. Postal Service requires that it be shipped by priority/expedited shipping.
