The envelope for the card is addressed to John Israel Smith, Jersey Shore, Pa., and postmarked Providence, R.I., Dec. 1949. The card and envelope have been kept inside the front cover, leaving corresponding shadows on the inside of the front cover and on the half title page. American poet Winfield Townley Scott (1910-1968) was raised in Rhode Island and was the literary editor of the Providence Journal until 1951. He married Eleanor Metcalf in 1943 and they moved to Sante Fe in 1954. In Good+ Condition: cover is lightly soiled; edges rubbed; faint dampstain along upper edge of front cover; small stain at lower corner of first few pages; lower corners of final few pages lightly creased; otherwise, clean and solid.
