Hamburg, Germany: 1918. 2 notebooks with ruled paper; 20 cm. Black card covers with handwritten paper labels on the front covers. Cover title: Tagebuch von Henriette Brock 1814. All page edges have marbled decoration in red. Small stamp on front fixed endpaper indicating that the notebooks were purchased from W. Baade, Hamburg. The first notebook and half of the second notebook contain the diary of Henriette Brock Heise (1793-1860), which she kept from Jan. 1, 1814, to March 25, 1815. She comments on political and family events in Hamburg, concluding with her engagement to Johann Herrmann Heise (1778-1861), Hamburg attorney. The rest of the second notebook contains notes by her granddaughter Anna Baasch Mestern (1850-1942) about the transcription from the original of Henriette Brock's diary, and genealogical information and family history up to 1919. A few later death dates have been added in pencil in the margins. Entirely in German script. In Near Fine Condition: edges are rubbed; clean and solid. Near Fine. Item #011602
