Written on the front free endpaper of the first notebook: "Reise nach Russland im April und Mai 1898." Each volume bears a bookplate on front fixed endpaper: "Dr. Med. W. Sieveking 1908." Wilhelm Sieveking (1873-1958) travelled to Russia in 1898 with his father, Caspar Wilhelm Sieveking (1834-1917), his sister Gretchen (Joanna Margaretha Sieveking (1877-1940)), and brother Fritz (Friedrich Christian Sieveking (1867–1917)). He records the journey from Danzig via the Nord Express to St. Petersburg, and then to Moscow, Pyatigorsk, Mineralnye Vody, Vladikavkaz, Kazbegi, Mlety, Tiflis [Tbilisi], Samarkand, Krasnovodsk, Baku, Bukhara, Merv, Borshom [Borjomi], Kutaisi, Odessa, Constantinople (Istanbul), and Budapest, and the return to Germany. This is a fascinating account of travel in eastern Europe in the late 19th century. Entirely in German script.
