The city of Boston had 1,000 copies printed of this volume containing an account of the memorial exercises held by that city after the death of American author and activist Julia Ward Howe (1819-1910). The program included an address by Mary E. Woolley, President of Mount Holyoke College, and music by 50 members of the Boston Opera House orchestra, an 80-member male chorus, and a 75-member chorus of students from the Perkins Institution for the Blind. It concluded with the Battle Hymn of the Republic with lyrics by Howe. The volume contains the text of the various addresses and poems. Scarce. In Good- Condition: ends of spine are rubbed slightly frayed; 2 frayed spots on spine; cover is soiled; slight indentation in front cover; front hinge weak; faint dampstain at upper corner of front endpapers and along upper fore-edges; ink in margin of one page; otherwise, clean and solid.
