Lord Lothian vs. Lord Lothian: Excerpts from the Speeches and Writings of the Marquess of Lothian British Ambassador to the United States
Scotch Plains, NJ: Flanders Hall, 1940. Paperback. x, 53 pages, frontispiece; 20 cm. Paperback. "A Flanders Hall Book-of-the-Hour" -- on front cover. The small publishing house Flanders Hall was founded in 1939 to publish pro-German material. The business was dissolved at the end of 1941, after supporter George Sylvester Viereck had been charged with having concealed his propaganda activities. Lord Lothian (Philip Henry Kerr, 11th Marquess of Lothian) had thought that the treatment of Germany in the Treaty of Versailles had been too harsh. However, by the time he became Ambassador to the United States in 1939 his concern about German military strength led him to encourage the entry of the United States into the war. In this publication, Viereck brought together excerpts of Lord Lothian's writings in the 1930s with the hope of discouraging America's support for Britain against Germany. Scarce. In Good+ Condition: cover is rubbed and slightly creased; 3-cm. separation at tail of spine, with archival repair; one page is creased; clean and solid. Good +. Item #011753
