The important novel by Austrian writer Franz Werfel (1890-1945) about the beginning of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. The book was banned by the Third Reich in 1934 and in Turkey the following year. The first edition was published in both red cloth and in blue. In Good- Condition: covers are lightly soiled; edges are rubbed and frayed; lower edges of vol. 2 have small stain; lacking almost half of vol. 1 label and edge of vol. 2 label; vol. 1 ribbon bookmark is detached but present; joints on both volumes are starting to separate at the head of the spine; both front hinges are weak; pages are clean and tight.
