On 24 June 1676 William Holland of Horsmonden of Kent County, yeoman, for 100 pounds mortgaged to Attained Smith of Gowdhurst [Goudhurst], Kent County, tanner, a 12-acre property called Costle. It contained a house, barn, other outbuildings, a garden, and two orchards. Signed by William Holland with his wax seal. Signed by witnesses Edward Sibly and Thomas Markniss.
